No wonder it's free. I'm staying with Windows 7 until these issues are resolved.

Updates about my own stuff pretty soon.

Some more stuff:

Oh my God... this is sickening... Seriously, I actually feel sick after reading about 3/4 of the way through the first link... I was actually looking forward to win10, thinking that cortana would be really cool because you could talk to the computer like a normal person instead of using clumsy voice commands like you do with dragon or windows speech recognition... but thats not a price Im willing to pay for a novelty item like voice recognition... Whats worse is that I am getting a new computer for school soon, and while I planned on duel booting some version(s) of linux from the beginning, I was still planning on using windows for some things, primarily just stuff that cant run on linux like autodesk software. I think it is going to come with win10, and I dont know if they will let me swap to 7... This is terrifying... one of the best things about the internet in my opinion is the ability to be anyone you want, and have the internet you (or however different "identities" you have) be completely partitioned from the physical world. the fact that it collects nicknames and integrates that into their system means that there is now a direct connection between Enigma-Jake and <real name goes here> and <other account name goes here>... until now, it was difficult if not impossible to link them...

I wonder if there are enough people who understand the ramifications of all this to effectively boycott windows 10...

I guess I should have expected something like this... While using win8, I decided I did not want to update to 8.1, so I kept telling it no every time it asked. then one day it told me that it was going to update in 24 hours, and did not give me the option to override. I wasn't planning on losing this battle, so I unplugged the Ethernet cable, cleared the password list for the wifi networks (note that I actually verified that the files associated with this were deleted), disabled the auto-connect  to wifi feature, turned off wifi, then set it to airplane mode. I then went into the administrated tools and navigated to the section dealing with auto updates. I disabled this to the best of my ability (cant remember exactly how I did it or what I did to be honest). Confident that the ONLY way it was going to update before I woke up the next day would require the computer to, on it's own accord:

1) wake from suspend
2) turn wifi on
3) turn airplane mode off
4) re-enable auto-connection to wifi networks
5) crack the password to my wireless network
6) re-enable auto-updates for the OS
7) actually perform the update
8) finally, it had to be able to do this all within 8 hours or I would be able to stop it manually

Needless to say, I was 100% confident that this would work....

The next morning, I woke up, and the first think I did was to open up the laptop. The screen comes up, and I see "please wait while windows finishes setting up windows 8.1" (or something like that)...
